Ladder Game Ideas
The ladder game works whenever you need to decide who does what. Here are ideas for different situations, with examples of what to put in the result boxes.
At work
Leave awkward decisions to the ladder and nobody can feel picked on.
- Coffee run: one box says "Buys coffee", the rest say "Pass". The single different result is highlighted automatically.
- Meeting duties: decide who takes notes this week or who presents next time.
- Splitting work: write tasks such as "Research", "Design" and "Review" as results and assign them in one go.
- Choosing lunch: put restaurant options in place of players and "Yes" or "No" as results.
At school
Students accept results more easily when the ladder decides instead of the teacher.
- Cleaning areas and class jobs: write the areas or jobs as results.
- Presentation order: number the results 1, 2, 3 and so on.
- Seating: work in groups of up to ten with seat numbers as results.
- Quiz time: use question numbers as results to decide who answers which question.
With friends and family
- Who pays: one "Pays the bill" box and the rest "Pass".
- Trip roles: driver, bookings, photographer, treasurer.
- Gift exchange: link each player to a numbered gift.
- Household chores: dishes, recycling and laundry for the week.
For streams and online events
On a live stream or video call, share your screen while you play so everyone can watch. Animal characters walking down the ladder one by one make the reveal exciting, or you can show everything at once with Reveal all.
Tips for filling in results
- Use the + button to add players. Each new result box copies the previous one, so you do not have to type "Pass" over and over.
- If every result is the same kind, write numbers to decide an order.
- When there is a single winning result, it is highlighted and its border keeps blinking until someone reaches it.
- Leave names empty to show "Player 1" and so on, which is handy when you just want to start quickly.
